"No more just sitting students while the teacher preaches in front of the class. Decorate, copy, repeat ... no way! "Is the motto of Muuvit Health and leraning Oy Ltd. This is an elementary school program created in Finland that helps teachers, principals and managers to promote interdisciplinary education. The program involves the use of a simple and exciting platform that integrates physical activity with "distant" fields of knowledge: Arithmetic, Global Citizenship, Geography, Tourism, Health, Foreign Languages and in the case of Brazil, Culture of Peace as well.
Maxwill Braga, knowledge manager of the Institute Share, is the responsible entity for the implementation of the program in Brazil. According to Max, "Share the Institute embraced this opportunity to bring the Muuvit to Brazil because of the alignment with our mission to promote sports as a positive instrument of social change. In addition, the Muuvit fits the need to promote innovative and fun physical activities in schools to a younger age group that our projects have not reached. The Institute also benefits from the experience of combining education and digital tools. "The first classes in public schools are being prepared to start in mid-September in the city of Curitiba. Already in 2015, the platform will be available free to any teacher of elementary school from Brazil who register on the site from January.
The Institute Share Network is a member of the Sport for Social Change (REMS), which includes the platform Designed for Movement (Designed to Move) in the country. As a long term partner of REMS and Share Institute, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Brazil, coordinates the platform sports activities designed for the Movement. "The partnership between Muuvit, the Finnish Embassy in Brazil and the Share Institute is an important initiative to strengthen the link between education and physical activity," says Jenny Karlsen, Director of Strategic Partnerships UNDP Brazil. According to Jenny, "UNDP Brazil is proud to support this partnership which aims to promote healthy lifestyle and joy of learning of children."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland focuses on educational innovation. Raisa Ojala, project coordinator of the Finnish Embassy in Brazil has ambitious goals: "The Finnish experience shows that education is indeed the key to success and that's what we want to tell the world. That's why we want to bring new and innovative models for learning. We see the Muuvit as a great way to bring joy to the classroom. The program opened the horizon of students and motivates them to be healthier, happier and move more! "
